Jimi HendrixLast time I talked about Jimi Hendrix at the lodge, at least six or so years ago, a tape of his music was playing in the background, quietly I thought. I recall a member of the audience being very indignant about the volume; this stopped me in my tracks, and being the sweetly accomodating Cancerian that I am (ask my husband!), I was just about to hit the knob when I starred into Madam Blavatsky's mesmerising eyes which peered out from the hypnotic portrait upon the wall of the Theosophical Society. MB's magnetic orbs sent the message 'TURN IT UP', which of course I couldn't do …

Spirit of the rebel outsider is very much a theme in Jimi's chart, particularly with his Sagittarian planets in the 12th house being his veritable 'Band of Gypsies' willing to chance all in order to reach the wider audience. This time the talk will be different; all will be welcome into the hippy fold full of peace, love, and flower power. We'll see how important the 1960's Uranus Pluto conjunction in Virgo was in activating god-like immortal fame for Jimi Hendrix."

The Ultimate ExperienceThe Chapter 'Third Stone From The Sun: The Birth Chart of Jimi Hendrix' was composed by Laura Boomer and Neil Spencer, in Jimi Hendrix, The Ultimate Experience by Adrian Booty and Chris Salewicz (1995). Laura's last address at the Lodge (after the one alluded to above) was in 2000, called 'The Co-ordinates of Enlightenment.' One noted that this happened to be scheduled for 27th November, Hendrix' birthday.

Hendrix' Venus-opposite-Saturn was aligned with the stars Antares and Aldebaran:

Heart of the Scorpion, Antares, 9º SA 2', Venus 7º SA 36'
The Bull's Eye Aldebaran 8º GE 58' Saturn 9º GE 22'

Extract from 'Third Stone', by Laura and Neil:

'When Jimi Hendix touched down on planet Earth, the Sun and Moon stood respectively in the eastern and western sky. All but two of the planers were above the horizon. In the east, the twenty-fourth degree of the constellation of Sagittarius was rising over the horizon, with the centaur's arrows pointing directly to the core of our galaxy.

All the planets in Jimi's chart fall in fire, air or water signs - he conspicuously lacks earth's practicality. In particular his excess of elemental fire (through Sagittarius and Leo) points to Jimi's wild, volatile tendencies. The 'bowl' shape described by Jimi's planets, with all but two falling in the upper half of the chart, represents a receptive, self-contained individual who receives knowledge and emotional understanding through his experiences. That the majority of planets are in the sky, above the self-relationship axis symbolised by the horizon, indicates that an outgoing character like Hendrix enjoyed very little privacy, as though he were constantly on show.

At the top of the chart sits Neptune in Libra. Neptune, ruler of the deep, personifies the collective dream. In such a prominent position, Neptune invited the hippie generation to project their collective fantasies onto Jimi. Neptune, strongly aspected by Sun and moon, is a natural conduit for the fantasies of others Jimi's Neptunian links consume his chart, making its dominant theme his search for spiritual consciousness. Jimi Hendrix was carried along on Neptune's tides, mystically in touch with the divine, yet swept away in a drug-induced miasma.

Mars in the sexually charged sign of Scorpio gives Jimi's rebellion an outrageous, sexy, flamboyance…'

Extract from the TMA Dec 2004 on Hendrix:

'Transiting Jupiter in Leo was extremely influential during the band's formative period. First, it sextiled Jimi's Neptune and Uranus and trined Mercury; then it turned stationary, exactly trining natal Sun and progressed Mars as the band recorded and then released their first record, an old blues song titled 'Hey, Joe.' … Both transiting Uranus in Virgo and Neptune in Scorpio were making flowing aspects to natal Jupiter in early 1967 when Hey Joe became a Top ten hit in England. In mid-May, as Jupiter, (having now turned direct) crossed the natal Moon, the band released its debut album 'Are you Experienced?' to rave reviews.

Harry Farmer, The Mountain Astrologer Dec 2004. 'JH: Life Experienced'

I feel the oceans swaying me
Washing away all my pain
See where I used to be wounded
Remember the scar?
Now you Can't see a thing ...
and I don't Feel no pain!
