His light can empower or destroy the qualities of the planets. In this
lecture we will explore and demonstrate the relationship of the planets
with the Sun, so crucial for a complete delineation.
Helena Avelar is a full-time astrologer, teacher and researcher in Astrology.
Helena was born in Lisbon in 1964. She studies Astrology since she was
very young but only in 1992 she began a structured study. She started
counselling in 1996 and teaching in 1999.
In 1999 she started working with Luís Ribeiro
and founded a school in Lisbon - Academia
de Estudos Astrológicos (Academy of Astrological Studies). The school
offers a four-year course that includes the fundaments of the astrological
interpretation, basic astronomy and calculation as well as counselling
skills. The school also promotes regularly workshops and lectures with
renowned guest astrologers.
Besides the teaching and lecturing Helena and Luís publish a monthly
astrological bulletin and they write articles for specialised magazines.
Their research work focuses mainly on recovering the traditional practice,
investigation on the History of Astrology in Portugal and on Mundane Astrology.
Helena is currently working on her PhD in History in the University of
Lisbon.
Since 2002 they organise Stellium - the Portuguese Astrological Conference,
that reunites both Portuguese and foreign astrologers.
They have two published books:
Vamos Falar de Astrologia (Let's Talk about Astrology), 2003, a FAQ
book with more than 110 questions about interpretation, History, Astronomy,
counselling and ethics in the astrological area.
Astrologia Real (Royal Astrology), 2004, a research book that presents
the charts of the kings and queens of Portugal and interpretation based
on the traditional line.
