Lara Owen is a writer, psychotherapist and astrologer with a background in Chinese medicine. Her work focuses on how harmonizing with natural cycles maximizes well-being. Her talk this evening was entitled The Astrology of Love in Midlife focusing on the ages of 40 - 60. She mentioned the pressures of this ages group often juggling work, families and aging parents and there becomes little time for time for oneself or indeed a new relationship. She then looked at different transits with transiting Pluto around ages 38 - 42 and Uranus opposition Uranus which highlights the need for liberation and so can trigger divorce or one might become to someone which can turn out to be short lived. A Neptune square happens at the same time so this can stimulate romantic longings.

A Chiron return around the age of 51 brings up conflict for men who want stability rather than freedom. Women benefit from taking time out, a time for therapy and you may even want to recreate youth!

The main focus of the evening was on the 2nd progressed lunar return. It signifies the final withdrawal of mother projection. At age 54/56 if highlights how much we can give or receive. It also brings up entitlement issues. It can be very corrosive with love. It brings an opportunity to heal and get what you want.

The final transit when looked at was the second Saturn return at 59. It marks the completion of maturity. You can finally relax into what is. One is still productive and it is the stage when people become Elders.

She then looked at Venus as the planet to focus on relationships and in particular a progressed Venus around midlife. Venus generally progresses two signs by the time midlife arrives and it was very interesting to look at how we would be effected by this. The talk was finished Lara looking at charts of her client's to illustrated these points.

Class

This week's class was the second in the series with Claire Chandler on America at the Crossroads looking at the run up to the American Presidential elections in November of this year. Today she took a look at the Democratic party and its three front runners attempting to be their nominee for the Presidency. So we looked at the charts of Hilary Clinton, Barack Obama and John Edwards.
