Lodge Lecture

Alex Trenoweth is always a welcome visitor to the Lodge. Apart from being an astrologer, she is also a teacher of English and Drama in a London school. She also play trumpet, which she learned in her days with the Salvation Army. Hence her knowledge and interest in the talk she gave tonight on the Salvation Army: Blood and Fire. As she said the words "Salvation Army" evokes strong images of help in a time of crisis, charity in the hour of need, and mercy in one's deepest, darkest hour. She told the story of the founders William Booth (10th April 1829 - Nottingham, England) and his wife Catherine (17th January 1829 - Noon time only - Ashbourne) and their huge family. Apart from the amazing work done by this organisation in saving those influenced by drink and resulting poverty they also handled their 11 children in a typical Victoria manner. She showed the charts of the eldest son Bramwell Booth (8th October 1856,- 20:30, Halifax) and Ballington Booth ( 28th July 1856 - London, Herbert Booth ( 28 August, 1862 - London) and their daughter Kath Booth (18 September 1858 - London) . The children were forced to wear the uniform and attend rallies which affected them. The women proved to be the stronger in the family including the wives of the sons. The story of how they 'took over the world' and how they now are one of the most respected organisations was fascinating.

Class

Andrew Morton was joined this week by Tim Metcalfe. Their talk was entitled Celestial Sphere. Together they spoke and demonstrated, with the aid of super software, about the great circles in the sky, the ecliptic, the celestial equator, the solstice and equinocular points. They then explained the moving celestial north pole. Most interesting was studying precession and the circumpolar constellations. Next week they will look at other interesting aspects of the Heavens.

Charts Discussion

Charts discussion this week started bemusingly. I showed the following chart: -

5th April 2063 11.15 am Mountain View Wyoming and asked what they thought may happen on this date. I was confusing the audience, however after a bit of debate I put the audience out of their misery.

This is the chart of 'First Contact' the title of the Star Trek Movie which gives a time and place when the legendary Seffrem Cochran tested his warp drive engine and got the attention of the Vulcans, who were doing a reconnaissance in the Solar System. It appears such an engine is a sign of an advance civilisation so the Vulcans decided to descend to Earth to introduce themselves and meet the inventor.

The fact that the planet was just recovering from World War 3 ( a nuclear one) and Seffram liked his rock and roll music and whisky, and the group he lived with were a bit roughneck, did not seem to stop the Vulcans continuing the contact and heralding the start of a new world which would lead to The Federation of Planets and of course Captain Kirk (does anyone have his birth details?)

I loved the chart, Moon conjoining Saturn so aptly described the logical Vulcans and Uranus close to Mars ( not quite conjunct) and in trine to Pluto in Pisces in the 10th house ( sorry I'm Scorpio rising I will still use this whatever it is planet) I believe indicates this new invention which transforms the Earth. Chiron close to the North Node shows the healing that will begin especially in the sign of Pisces.

After this we did some personal solar returns

See you next week
