Lodge Lecture

It was a pleasure to welcome back Christine Chalklin to the Lodge this week which has become a regular spot around this time of year. This time she gave a talk on Mary, Queen of Scots and her relationship with Elizabeth 1st. She started by putting up the family trees which showed how they were both related through the same blood line. They were born nine years apart and were both huge disappointments to their fathers, Elizabeth to her father Henry 8th, who did not attend her christening because he wanted a son. Mary's father James V of Scotland, who had lost two sons before her, turned his head away as she was born. However, he was very till and she became Queen at 5 years old. With her Sagitarrian sun she was 6 feet tall and was good at many sports.

Then we looked at the chart of Elizabeth, whose mother was beheaded, and who went to live with her step mother, Catherine Parr and Thomas Seymour. (There are rumours of sexual abuse here) Her chart showed Capricorn rising with Saturn in the 7th house in Cancer, showing her living in fear for much of her life. Moon in the third house squaring Pluto indicating the scenario around her mother being beheaded. She also spent some time in the Tower of London. She had a love of learning and languages. She enjoyed challenge and competition Mars in Gemini opposite Jupiter. Sun in Virgo. Succeeded the throne in 1558. She was very friendly with John Dee who drew up the chart for the coronation on 15th January between 11 and 12. Venus was trine her Sun and opposite her Moon with Mars conjunct her Mars on the MC showing dynamic leadership.

The charts of the two women mirrored their lives with the Nodes mirroring each other in opposition. Mary had a devastating effect on the men in her life, who all came to unfortunate ends. Mary was a Catholic and Elizabeth was Protestant and it was this that convinced Mary that she should have been the rightful heir to the English throne. Their paths took a full nodal return of cat and mouse between them fighting for the right to the throne. Elizabeth signed the death warrant on 1st Feb 1587.

The synastry chart of the two women showed their Suns and Mercurys squared and other interesting aspects showing power struggles between the two. The execution chart was cast for 9:45 am and shows 25 deg Taurus, Algol rising, indicating beheading, when she died.

Today was the first of a series of four where Sue gave an overview of the various aspects and how she looked at them in a chart.

Charts Discussion

Firstly we looked at the chart of Anne Nicole Smith and then compared her chart with that of Marilyn Monroe, as Ms Smith had always believed she would die in similar circumstances as they woman who inspired her. We felt that the Ms Smith's Neptune/Mercury conjunction squaring the Saturn of Marilyn Monroe indicated this fantasy, and it was a bit of a self fulfilling prophecy.

We then looked at the chart of Dame Helen Mirren and compared the chart with The Queen and then we also looked at the chart of Dame Judi Dench, to see if we could predict who would win the Oscar for best actress this year (not The Queen, but Dame Helen or Dame Judi)

Jupiter is about to transit the Sun of Dame Judi Dench, so watch this space.
