Lodge Lecture |Charts Discussion

Lodge Lecture

Mike Edwards was our visitor for othis evening. He talked to us about ‘turning the chart’, a techique we should all be familiar with, but which is, unfortunately, forgotten by many. Basically, one puts any of the houses on the ascendant, using it as horoscopic indicator to enquire about the affairs of this house

To start with, Mike reminded us of the traditional order of the various kinds of astrology, in which Horary stands at the top, followed by electional astrology, the astrology of kings and leaders, tribes and great nations, with natal astrology at the very bottom of the list.

After giving us an idea of where he stands as far as astrology and science are concerned (“There’s no science of astrology, but a lot of astrology of science”), we looked at several charts.

The first one was quite anecdotal. It was the chart of a horary question Ronald Davison had asked in 1949 – more or less mockingly, as this long time president of the Astrological Lodge wasn’t very fond of horary astrology. The question had been ‘Will I go to America this year?’ With Saturn, the 9th house ruler retrograde and in the 4th, the answer was a clear No. Instead, with a 1st house Moon, Venus conjunct the 1st house ruler and the Sun as 4th house ruler on the MC, Davison had stayed at home and gotten married.
Davison presented this chart at the Lodge again, over thirty years later. That night he also got presented with a huge armchair, which he took home. Unfortunately, this was to be the last night of his life, he died in his sleep. Looking at the 2nd – 8th house axis of this horary, it perfectly describes the death situation of the querent: Jupiter in the 8th opposes the Moon in Cancer on the 2nd house cusp, and 8th house ruler Saturn, again, retrograde and in the 4th. This chart didn’t have anything to do with Davison’s natal horoscope, and yet it reflected the events prevailing after it was presented to the Lodge audience a second time. In astrology, the wonders never cease!

The second horoscope was that of Lady Margaret Thatcher (13 Oct. 1925. 9.07am, Grantham, UK). Using her 10th house as horoscopic indicator (i.e. turning the chart until the MC becomes AC), her distinctive governmental style unfolded in the circular drawing before us.

We also looked at the nativity of Tony Blair (6 May 1953, 6.10am, Edinburgh, Scotland). His very prominent 12th house was almost an invitation to use the house of self-undoing as horoscopic indicator and look into ‘the case’ from there. A very revealing picture emerged that you will have to reconstuct on your computer at home. You should have been there!
