Lodge Lecture |Charts Discussion Lodge LectureSue Farebrother’s talk tonight was about the life of Eliphas Levi, the occult master whose book ‘Transcendental Magic’ was to have a huge influence on all western occult systems, including Madame Blavatsky’s Theosophical Society, Macgregor Mathers’ Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn and of course Aleister Crowley who believed himself to be Levi’s reincarnation. There is no timed birth data for Eliphas Levi – only the date of 8th February 1810 when he was born named Alphonse Louis Constant in Paris. Sue has performed her own rectification which she demonstrated to be extremely accurate when tracking the transits to his chart in relation to his life story and gaining insight into his character. This was a fascinating talk which has prompted me to buy my own copy of Transcendental Magic. ClassThe Astronomy for Astrologers session tonight was another in Andrew Morton’s series of popular talks, guiding us through the major events unfolding in the skies above us at the current time. He also managed to explain the concept of latitude to us with reference to the Venus-Saturn series of conjunctions during 2007. This left us to ponder how ‘exact’ a conjunction really is, and whether they are of varying ‘strengths’ depending on the latitude involved. Alison KellyCharts DiscussionWe started by recapping on the Rugby World Cup final which had been discussed the previous week. Interestingly, I had got to the chapter in Frawley’s Sports Astrology dealing with events as the final was playing so was trying to make it out as we went along. Even more interestingly, I made exactly the same mistakes as the previous week’s Charts Discussion had. We’d both started out with the right houses: favourites get the First, underdogs the seventh. This gave Jupiter in Sag on 7th cusp which we all saw as a good testament for England when set against a retrograde Mercury for the favourites. However, as we saw in hindsight, this just meant that we were a bit full of ourselves. Ruling the seventh and being in the seventh, we didn’t get out of our own territory. Conclusive testimony for the favourites was the Moon conjunct the MC. Even though Saturn, ruler of the 10th, was conjunct the south node the Moon showed the victor. Some of my colleagues would put that position of Saturn down as descriptive of the Referee but I couldn’t possibly comment. We also looked at the BBC, following on from the recent announcements.
We’ve looked at the BBC before and have been watching the passage
of Pluto over Jupiter at 23 Sag and MC at 26 Sag and opposite the Moon
at 27 Gemini with interest. The chart we used is for the first TV broadcast.
There are other charts which tell a similar story. Claire Chandler
