Lodge Lecture

Keeping with the musical theme this week we continued with the message, this time from John Etherington, who has made a life time study of the pop business and astrology. John also owns a wonderful Astrology bookshop in the Caledonian Road. (See our Links page for details). His talk focused on the themes running through charts of Rock (Saturn)and Roll (Mars). Main features seemed to occur around eclipses and conjunctions or oppositions of Jupiter and Uranus, particularly with the ingress of Uranus into a new sign.

In July of 1954 Bill Haley released 'Shake, Rattle and Roll' and Elvis Presley released 'Heartbreak Hotel', close to an eclipse conjunct Jupiter/Uranus in water, (Religion being eclipsed). We also looked at the charts of Ray Charles and the film 'Blackboard Jungle', which first played in March 1955.

At the end of the 50s there was a Jupiter/Uranus opposition. The Jupiter/Uranus cycle is 14 years. Ingress of Uranus into each sign brings forth something new. This one brought us the Beatles, Beach Boys, Rolling Stones and Bob Dillon. By 1965 there was also a Uranus/Pluto conjunction which added sexual themes to the music.

John covered every era up to the 80s with the Spice Girls. Several charts of these pop stars had Sagittarius rising, which indicated they were able to move things forward on a spiritual level.

Class

The last week of our classes on Eclipses, with Claire Chandler, looked at the astrology and meaning in personal and mundane charts. Solar eclipses focused on heroism and consciousness. It is the aspirational point in the chart. The Lunar qualities showed a clear bright light, giving clarity and distinct lunar vision - seeing with instinct. The sun and the Moon bring things into matter. the Nodes of the Moon are where the Solar and Lunar energy cross. The Sun/Moon cycle brings things in and take them out. Could take it as a hiccup, but can be major events. Watch the houses the transiting Nodes are in.

She went on to discuss Saros Cycles. These begin at every new Solar eclipse and create a new 'family' and they also create a tone. There are 40 lives going on at any one time and start at the North from the North Node and South for the South Node. She recommended Bernadette Brady's book 'The Eagle and the Lark' for excellent reference on the subject.

We finished looking at the chart of Nigeria as a mundane chart as it featured in the last Solar eclipse on March 29th and was in the path of totality.
