Lodge Lecture

It was our pleasure to welcome our second 'first timer' to the Lodge this week. Branka Stamenkovic lives and works in Serbia. She is a protoge of John Frawley, who himself will be returning to the Lodge next Term , and certainly did herself and him credit. Her talk on 'Receptions and Mutual Receptions' clearly made us realise how much we have forgotten in this modern world of Astrology. The traditional tools, that if used correctly, can open up a world of information. She caused a ripple of laughter round the completely packed room when she opened with a table of Ptolemy's table of essential dignities. We may know what they are, but how many of us use them on a continuing basis when looking at charts?

She went on to prove her point by putting up one chart, asking many different questions from different aspects of relationships, situations etc and finding the answers. How easy it was. Just by considering the condition of the Ascendant ruler and those planets aspecting it and whether they were in dignity or debilitation, exaltation or fall and whether it was a day or a night chart.

A great hour reminding us what we often forget

Class

A full room welcomed our third 'first timer' to the Lodge. Sue Farebrother, DFAstrol.S is a tutor at the Faculty of Astrological Studies. Her chosen class subject was The Nodes of the Moon and this will the first of a series of three. She looked at the way the Nodes are viewed in different types of Astrology. For example in Vedic Astrology the Nodes, or Rahu and Ketu, are very important. In fact in this method they are the Karmic axis, one that is your fate. Rahu acts like Saturn and Ketu acts like Mars.

In Western Astrology they can be viewed as Mean Nodes (Average) and True Nodes ( direct, stationary, forward). They are considered important around times of eclipses. and the nodal cycle is 18.6 years. The North Node acts like the Sun and Jupiter and the South Node like Moon and Saturn. You cannot consider them separately and it is one axis. The South Node is the past and what we already know, where we may fall back into patterns. The North Node is where we aspire to be and where we are challenged.

This week Sue looked at the houses and the signs. She used equal house system. She finished the class by looking at charts of some people we knew and of one of the class members. We will be looking at more of our own next week.
