Lodge Lecture

It was a pleasure to welcome Carole Taylor to the Lodge this week. Her talk on the lives of father and son, Tim and Jeff Buckley was given with the passion that came out of the story of their tragic lives. Though father Tim left his wife before his son was born he was unable to forgive himself and truly loved them both for the rest of his life. Carole went over the lives of their families, who came to America from Ireland with music and the wanderlust in their blood. They were known as hedge masters as they taught the Irish language against the will of the English. Tim Buckley (born 14/2/1947 - 19.07, Washington,DC) had an amazing voice with a range of five and a half octaves - but had a fierce disregard of commercialism, something his son also inherited. He met his wife at High school. Both came from abusive fathers. He had a cult following in the 1960's and his range of music covered, jazz, folk and blues. He also wrote music. Tim died from an accidental overdose of heroin on 29/6/1975 after becoming depressed.

Jeff Buckley was born (17/11/1966 - 22.49, Anaheim, CA). He, like his father, had a four octave voice. He became better known than his father and was essentially a musicians' musician. Just by looking at his chart one could see how troubled he was by his family roots and his past. His mother was a classical musician. She took the troubled Jeff to see his father in concert when he was 9 years old. After that he spent a week with his father. Soon after that week his father died. At age 13 he was bought his first guitar and although he studied music he would not sing. At age 25 he was asked to take part in a tribute concert to his father and it was then for the first time that the world was introduced to a haunting voice . He then went on to play small gigs in New York and recorded the album 'Grace'. He went on to tour for two years and during a break he went to Memphis to discuss and produce a second album. He went with a friend to the river and got caught up in the currents of a boat going by and tragically drowned.

Class

This was the first week of a series of four classes on learning just how strong our planets are in our chart with our President, Claire Chandler. Getting our heads round the table of essential dignities is often a problem, but understanding the strengths and weaknesses of planets, their placements and the houses they rule began to make serious sense.
