Lodge Lecture | Class | Charts Discussion Lodge LectureThis week's lecture featured Nick Kollerstrom, a frequent visitor to the Lodge, who had been given a grant to unearth the truth, via several letters held in archive, on the discovery of Neptune. This week was the 160th anniversary of the synchronistic discovery of this planet and it is nearly back in the same area of the sky when it was found. The race to find the planet was on when mathematicians Urbain Le Verrier in France and John C Adams England both found the planet floating about in the milky way. Adams reported to his superior G. B. Airy, who sat on the information and did not pass it to the observatory in Berlin until the French had reported their discovery. So in the usual way there was a battle between the two countries. It was named in a deal between France and Britain. So the discovery of Neptune was registered on 24th September 00.15, Berlin, Germany. The history and facts were fascinating. ClassTonight's class was the first of our series of four on Harmonics. It was left to Claire Chandler to commence the proceedings. It was an introduction and the full contents of the lecture can be found here. Carole WestCharts Discussionto follow |
