Lodge Lecture

This evening we were treated to a talk by Clare Martin, MA, D.F.Astrol.S., Dip.Psych.Astrol. Clare is the President of the Faculty of Astrological Studies. Her talk this evening was a very interesting look as she called it, Touching the Voids. She explained how her work with clients led her to look at the voids in the chart, empty signs, lack of element. It was this lack that was actually teaching us something very important. In fact whatever is lacking has great power over us. It is where our power and motivation comes from. Where you find the soul in the chart, where you find the true creativity and where we function autonomously. Because of the time factor she was only able to look at the lack of elements.

She touched on chart shaping focusing on the East/West and North/South hemispheres for the self and others aspect, the orientation, the modes and the elements.

So with a lack of Fire there will issues around being adventurous, leading, self belief. Then she went on to mention certain film stars, entrepreneurs, science-fiction writers and many cult figures, all who lacked fire and therefore pushed themselves forward in their need to be driven.

Those with lack of earth had issues around money, body, health, security and food. They never felt comfortable in a fiscal sense. They were often fitness junkies and were always on some diet or other. They certainly had issues around authority figures, death, work and money. It was surprising who had a lack of earth in their charts, Michael Angelo, Versace, Elton John, Charles Atlas, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bill Gates, Peter Sutcliffe and Dennis Neilsen. Having a distinct lack of earth myself I began to look at my own obsessions. I am always worried about money and I am in bad health. I have always kept fit to counteract this and I am obsessed about what I eat! So how right this is!

Air people had issues around learning, education, justice and fairness. Water people often have problems relating on an emotional level, bearing pain and a feeling of belonging - dependency.

A very interesting evening. Thank you Clare.

Class

Frank Clifford, a regular tutor at the London School of Astrology, took on the task of taking us to the Heart of the Chart. This was the first of four lessons. In this lesson he guided us to the power points of the horoscope. We discussed Traits, Types and Themes running through the chart. We looked at psychological and mundane events. Examples of the position and aspects to the Sun were very interesting. His suggested reading was 'Cosmic Loom' by Dennis Elwell. More next week.
