Lodge Lecture | Members' Classes | Charts Discussion Lodge LectureThis weeks lecture was given by our President, Claire Chandler. It concerned Mars and Neptune. 'If you pay attention you will get private lessons in the subject'. You can see it all around you. She then went on to explain Mars, a personal planet that transits every two and half years. The first superior planet and all the things it represents from knives, iron and bullets to blood and surgery, which uses sharp things. Mars also represents sport, which uses the strength of muscles. It causes you to move, expends energy. Considered malefic. The presence of Mars will have an echo of Saturn. Neptune is a transpersonal planet. It has a 163 year cycle. The most we will see in our life times is half a cycle. It is nebulous, dreamlike and visionary. It also represents music, art, glamour, the mass media and of course the sea. Mars and Neptune have opposite energy (iron - water). In a square aspect it will be an itch on your consciousness. There is a high incidence of mental illness with this kind of contact. Mars/ Neptune can inspire people to come on board for their cause. Connection to a higher power can mean =a loss of sense of self. If Saturn is weak then Mars can create anger. The clarity of Mars is lost in the fog of Neptune. Mars is the male archetype. Neptune will glamorise. To demonstrate this we were shown the chart of American body builder Boyer Coe, who now owns his own gym (details under our data page). Others mentioned were Jimmy Hoffer, the Teamsters leader, who had Mars in Capricorn opposite Neptune in Cancer. Other famous Mars/Neptune people included Robin Williams, Gaudi, Evel Kneival and David Berkowitz, the serial killer of the 1970s, 'Son of Sam' , the man who heard voices (details on our data page). As is usual for Claire, an interesting and lively lecture. You can read about Claire's work on her website Members' ClassesThis was the first of a series of four lectures that will feature a different speaker every week. This evening it was the turn of Les Bailey. It was a good day to start this series as the Sun was conjunct Algol. It is said to have the most evil influence in the heavens. He suggested that God is love and the mind of God is the whole Universe. The fixed stars are the key. He gave us an overview of what they are and how they can effect the chart. It is astronomical and is based on a sidereal zodiac. The truth is that these stars, if anywhere near the planets in the chart, also by declination, will give added influence to the planets. It is what lies beneath. Mundane Astrology is particularly affected by the position of the fixed stars. Without exception in all other Astrological forms, there are Lunar calendars, the Chinese, Arabic, Egyptian, Indian etc. It is there they come into their own. They feature well in the charts of Kings, Royalty, events and accidents. The royal star of Regulus is at 28 deg 29 of Leo. Les suggested that the best way to explore the position of the stars in a chart was to make yourself a Pentagram and place one of the points on the planets one by one. It creates a 72 deg angle with which to work with. Suggested reading was two books, 'Star Names - There Lore and Meaning' by Richard Hinckley Allen, and 'The fixed Stars and Constellations in Astrology' by Vivian E. Robson 1923. Carole WestCharts DiscussionFirstly we did a mystery chart - 18th November 1963 06.31 Shawnee Oklahoma - 35N38 96W55. This person has 17 Scorpio rising with Neptune on the ascendant. The Sun is in the first house and he has a Venus/Mars conjunction with the Moon at 16/17/19 Sagittarius straddling the first/second house. Saturn is at 17 Aquarius squaring the ascendant. Everyone immediately picked up that this was the chart of a sex symbol with defined chiselled features (Saturn squaring the ascendant) and the Venus/Mars/Moon conjunction. Who do you think it is? Reply to me the Vice President. Next we looked at the chart of Audrey Hepburn - May 1929. 3.00 BST. 28 Aquarius 38 Asc, 16 Sag 58 MC. Ms Hepburn is a Taurean and has a Sun/Jupiter conjunction which shows her generous nature however there must be other indicators in the chart which showed her waif like figure because we all agreed it could not be that conjunction. Venus in trine with Neptune Aries/Leo shows her abilities as an actress especially of the romantic kind and with the Moon in Pisces shows her charitable and sensitive personality. We then looked at the chart of Donald Rumsfeld and it was agreed there is a good chance he will survive his present troubles as his chart shows what a great survivor he is with Sun/Pluto conjunction in the 7th house indicating a sense of power over his open enemies. The Ascendant/Jupiter and Uranus are in a grand trine in fire, 1st/fourth/eighth house. This shows a great powerful ego. Moon trine Saturn (strong in Aquarius) - it is easy for him to be cool and distant from his emotions. Then we did Ingmar Kamprad - the owner of IKEA and the richest man in the World . Sun in Aries - in the 10th house - his entrepreneurial spirit. Jupiter conjunct Part of Fortune, wealth. Venus in the 8th opposing Neptune in the 2nd - others peoples' money. The Moon in the 3rd house trining the Venus and sextiling the Neptune (well I wouldn't spend any money at IKEA with that!!) Lastly we did a chart of Jesus of Nazareth. The one of many that are given. The timing of this was given by Edgar Cayce. It had many planets in Pisces being opposed by Pluto and a Saturn/Mars conjunction which I thought was good symbolism for someone who dies a horrible death. As commented, maybe we should send the chart to Mel Gibson for his comments!! Next week 24th May - Claire Chandler, our President, will be organising chart discussion (as I am off on my travels again) and a brilliant evening is already being planned. If anyone saw Panorama on Sunday 16th of May, and was interested in its content, you will love chart discussion this week coming. Gill Dorren |
