Lodge Lecture

The first screening of Dr Who took place at 17.16 in London (the day after President Kennedy of the US was assassinated - and the day before my own 21st birthday and on the day of my party). Since then there have been several replacement actors taking on the role that was first portrayed by William Hartnell, several books on the subject and a monthly magazine. Adam Fronteras guided us on the journey through its history.

It began as a low budget programme, which became famous in the industry for new camera techniques and used the first electronic music. It featured stories from religion and Buddhism as well as other tales. The Tardis was indestructible and blended in with all its surroundings, in whatever time it found itself in. The famous Darleks were introduced not long after the beginning. Commencing in black and white it went to colour in the 1970s.

Other actors involved included Jon Pertwee, Tom Baker and Sylvester McCoy. It is about to be resurrected this year with Christopher Eccleston playing the part in a series that started the year before he was born. For legal reasons the Darleks cannot put in an appearance for the time being.

Members' Classes

Mariella Cassar followed up last week's class on the Progressed Moon by talking on the use of Solar Arc Directions.

She compared the movement of the angles and the inner planets by progression and by SA direction and explained how she differentiates between the two. She also explained the use of the Solar Arc direction of the outer planets. She demonstrated both techniques together with the transits of the outer planets on the charts of some well-known personalities who are currently making the headlines, in order to gain insight into how they were experiencing the current events in their life.

Recommended reading: Symbolic Directions by Charles Carter and Time of Critical Illness by Noel Tyl. Thank you Mariella.

Charts Discussion

Andrew Morton gave us a very insightful analysis of the Lodge's Solar Return, which took place today, although our birthday is tomorrow.

Going through the events which lead to the proposal of the Lodge and the linkages with the solar return chart we highlighted a year where we must be careful with finance and with communications both within the Lodge and between the Lodge and the greater astrological community.
