Lodge Lecture |Charts Discussion Lodge LectureHere we were on our first day of our new term in the new year. We were treated to a fascinating talk by Peter Nockolds. He set out to prove in his own inimitable way how Conan Doyle filled his stories of S-her-lock Hol-mes with hidden references to Astrological events. Hidden in the name is the Hermes, another name for Mercury. Then he proceeded to prove that he had a certain liking for events on a repetitive basis. For example Mercury conjunct the Sun at the Summer Solstice. 19th June 1889 - 'The Man with the Twisted Mouth', 24th June 1872 - The Valley of Fear, 23rd June 1902 - 'The Adventure of the Creepy Man' . He then went on to describe characters and places indicating Mercury and the Sun in Leo. Several more tales carried events of the Moon in Leo. He also had a liking for the date of the 4th of the May, Mercury's birthday. Eventually Conan Doyle became interested in Spiritualism at the same time as Uranus was discovered. He was not that fond of Sherlock Holmes and eventually killed him off at the Falls of Meringer in Switzerland. Peter put up the chart of the 4th May 1891 later afternoon, showing 17 deg Libra Asc. Conan Doyle was involved in many of the occult societies which flourished in late Victorian London. Charts DiscussionCharts examined this evening were of Dr Harold Shipman who killed himself this week in Wakefield prison. Carole West is doing research into Saturn returns. Harold Shipman killed himself close to his 2nd Saturn return. He started his killing spree in 1974 - his first Saturn return (more to follow) In this vein we also looked at the chart of Ian Huntley who killed the two children in Sobham on his first Saturn return. Birth data on our data page. |
