Lodge Lecture | Charts Discussion

Lodge Lecture

We were so pleased to welcome back our President Emeritus, Wanda Sellar. Her talk was, as usual thorough, deep and very interesting. It was entitled 'Self Undoing' and featured the 12th house.

What seemed most intriguing was the fact that the 12th house is really the unconscious. Therefore, although it is in the upper part of the chart and can been seen by the rest of the world - we can't see it. We just act upon it and 'shoot ourselves in the foot' (another 12th house anomaly). Our unconscious actions, albeit unintentional, perhaps create those hidden enemies.

Karma is also part of the 12th house interpretation. So maybe the events are payback time making us the victim, feeling weak, isolated, constrained (imprisonment). The way out of the situation is to become conscious of what we are doing or how we are behaving, change our attitude and effectively take charge of our lives. Quite often it will only be transits to the 12th house or the planets therein that will activate the feelings and force us to confront the issues.

Wanda then took us through the idea put forward by astrologer, Tad Man in his book The Round Art. He divides the chart from the 9th - 12th houses into three 'Octaves'. The first represents gestation, the second, childhood and the third maturity. It is the first octave that concerns the 12th house. The astrologer Al Biruni, writing in 1029 AD also describes the 12th house as 'prenatal fancies of the mother'. Fancies meaning imagination and experience. Wanda then went on to describe how planets placed in the 12th house may describe how the mother felt at the time of birth, which may have transferred to the unborn infant. All these things cannot, of course, be discussed on a telephone and would be discovered on a one to one meeting and talking on a deeper psychological level.

This is only the tip of the iceberg of what was a very full and diverse lecture.

Wanda will be taking part in a special astrological evening in late November her at the Lodge. Thank you Wanda.

Charts Discussion

The evening commenced with Gwen, one of our committee members, showing us her natal chart and a comparison with her boyfriend for us to discuss.

After that we showed the natal chart of Prince William and his solar return as he is 21 years old this week. He has been in the news for the wrong reasons: road rage, is he or isn't he engaged and does he or doesn't he want to be King?

With Jupiter on the MC from the 9th house and Sagittarius rising there is his love of freedom - however Jupiter on the MC shows his royal status. He has a wonderful New Moon in Cancer as the Sun enters the Summer solstice gate, in the 7th house of relationships which will emphasise his caring personality and his popularity.

We discussed the comparison with his mother's chart and the audience discussed progressions which would have indicated death of his mother. Saturn is transiting his 7th house and his New Moon and will station on his North node at the end of the summer. We discussed that he will probably have a partying summer but will then be shown by the Palace his true responsibilities. Money will be a factor.

His Solar return had Mars conjunct Uranus which shows his rebellious behaviour. With Moon in Aries, and Part of Fortune in the second house again the emphasis was on money and material possessions.

We then showed the chart of Gregory Peck, who died recently and we all agreed that is was a lovely chart. His popularity and fame etc. was easily seen with Sun conjunct Jupiter in the lucky 11th house. His independent streak (he never signed long term contracts with the Hollywood studios and always chose his own movies to act in) was shown with Uranus on the MC. Venus on the ascendant with Moon close by in Taurus pointed to his good looks and as Carole West indicated he had both the lights, the Sun and the Moon in their exaltation signs. He had Pluto, Part of Fortune and Saturn in the second showing both shrewdness and wealth with his money. Sadly he had the transiting of Saturn on his Pluto which could have indicated his death.

Lastly we showed the chart of Zimbabwe, as much is happening there. With the Mars/Uranus conjunction in the second, I felt it could have something to do with resources which will get particularly stressful at the end of August. It was also stated with the Sun and Mercury in the 3rd, their neighbours would be very important to them and South Africa is shown to be so. The recent eclipse at degrees of Gemini hit the Moon in the fifth house, which means its people will be effected over the next few months. We shall see.

And see you all next week.
