Lodge Lecture | Members' Classes | Charts Discussion Lodge LectureThis week's lecture took an entirely different tone. It was given by Mavis Klein and was entitled - The Astrology of Parenting. Mavis was excellent this evening. Her lecture was concerned with the phases of child growth, its impact on parents and the astrological symbols, which represented it. Mavis used the Jupiter, Saturn and Uranus cycles and their effects on child development. Beware Jupiter transiting the 5th House, Saturn transiting the Midheaven or Pluto transiting the Moon - all great indicators of pregnancy!!!! Jupiter cycles represent optimism and growth as a child is growing and Saturn represents responsibilities and hard work as well as the child's fears. Uranus shows us the sudden changes, which propel both child and parent forward. Mavis aptly went through the following ages calling them the Universal Astrological stages of life.
I loved the description Mavis gave of puberty and how it can stretch any parenting skills and the idea that puberty lasts till approximately 19 years of age and adolescence can last right up to the age of 29 years!! - the first Saturn return. Mavis then went on to describe, from the work she has done over the last 25 years as a Jungian psychologist, the different types of parents from the ' Stiff Upper Lip' parent, the 'Perfectionist' parent to 'the Hurrier' parent. Mavis Klein has worked as a psychotherapist for 25 years and is a founder member of the British Institute of Transactional Analysis. She has written several books concerning her theories including Pain and Joy in Intimate relationships, Understanding your Child, Lives People Live, How to Choose a Mate, The Enyagram, Astrology for Sceptics and her latest book Live Issues. It was a lecture enjoyed by all. Carole WestMembers' ClassesThis was the third and last of a memorable trilogy given by Helene Schnitzer this week looking at Astro*Carto*Gaphy, a field far too wide to be covered in detail during one hour. A*C*G maps show us places where certain planets would have been angular, had we be born there and not in our actual birthplace. By going there or by contact with people/objects from those places we evoke the angular power of the planet(s) in question. This method can be applied to natal and event charts alike. Also important are parans, crossings of these energy lines, which work on the same latitude around the whole planet and create a kind of underlying theme for the area in question. Crossings between A*C*G and Local Space lines show us the so-called destiny points, areas prone to dramatic and life-changing events.' Helene SchnitzerHelene was born in Germany in 1957. She first taught herself to draw a horoscope at age 17. After moving to Holland in 1979, she completed a four year professional training course at Karen Hamaker's Achernar School for Astrology and Related Sciences, where she studied Jungian psychology as well. A professional astrologer since 1986, she has translated several astrological books (a.o. "The 12th House" by Karen Hamaker and "The Secret Language of Birthdays" by Gary Goldschneider"). She studied Astro*Carto*Graphy with Arielle Guttman and Rob Hand in Santa Fe, New Mexico and received the Continuum certificate Level I and II. After relocating to London in 2001, she started working for Astro-Livelink, both as astrologer online and as operations manager. Helene is also a member of the current Lodge committee. Her first book, "Astrology" (with Kim Farnell and Cat Javor) is an illustrated encyclopaedia of astrology and will hit the shops in Spring 2003. We would like to thank Helene for her excellent classes. She can be contacted at Helene Schnitzer Charts DiscussionWe discussed the Columbia Space shuttle tragedy. Details can be found on our data page. Uranus was on the ascendant, which aptly described the suddenness of the disaster, and that this was involved in technology and science. It was discussed that the New Moon conjunct Neptune in the 12 house showed the confusion of the last moments and in opposition to Jupiter which is retrograding in Leo in the 6th house. With Saturn still retrograde in Gemini, not quite getting to but still in opposition to Pluto 10th to 4th house has shown so many tragic events recently. Mars is slowly getting to Pluto but is in trine aspect to Jupiter this week in the fire signs indicated the growth in the heat, which lead to the event. We then looked at the Challenger Space disaster chart, which occurred 28th January 1986 and noticed similarities in the charts, which were quite profound. Saturn the bringer of death was at 7 Sagittarius on the Challenger and conjunct the Midheaven of the Columbia disaster. Pluto at 19 of the archer in the 10th House of Columbia was conjunct the Uranus of the Challenger. Jupiter in the Challenger Chart is at 24' of Aquarius nearly conjunct the Columbia Uranus. In the Challenger chart there is a stellium of Mercury/Sun and Venus on the 10 Aquarius degree which is where the New Moon and Neptune stellium of the Columbia tragedy is. Saturn/ Pluto all about death. Uranus the suddenness, unexpectedness and as it was so aptly described, there for the whole World to see on TV (Uranus symbol of the TV aerial). Jupiter can always be a bad guy in these events. We also looked at the chart of the Tube accident at Holborn and there at the Midheaven at 27 degrees of the waterbearer - Uranus - again - on the angle - it seems to be leaving its own sign in the most horrible of ways. We also discussed the unaspected Mercury and the confusion, chaos and lack of communication from a managerial perspective, which has only put the situation into more turmoil. Next week we are going to be looking at the chart of the Hackney Siege and hopefully get around to the Mexico Earthquake chart. With Saturn in opposition to Pluto and Mars looming nearby. Jupiter in opposition to Neptune - and the full Moon coming on 16th February (the congestion charges in London begin we are going to be looking at that chart next week too). We Live in interesting times. Gill Dorren |
