Lodge Lecture | Members' Classes | Charts Discussion Lodge LectureJeanette Yacoub is a master of history of her favourite subject, Venus. She put up slides of the ancient carvings of Ishtar and the myths which started in Iraq (Mesopotamia) in 4,300 BC. She told of her journey in and out of the underworld and how she became known as the Goddess of love and war (the morning and the evening star). The stories of the Gods were fascinating and complicated. It proved that although we now refer to her as Venus, according to the Greeks, her story started much earlier. Carole WestMembers' ClassesThis was Claire's second class, this week describing cycles of the horoscope. Carrying on from the previous one we learned of birth being the ultimate crisis. If the planet is retrograde when you are born it will return to its natal position soon after birth. All planets will hit the natal configuration as they move through the sky. For instance the Sun will be opposed to the Sun at six months of age. Hard aspects challenge, soft aspects flow. Angles aspect every point in the zodiac in 24 hours, the Moon in 29 days, the Sun in 1 year, Venus and Mercury in around 1 year. Claire went through all the planetary returns and took us through the ages- and having experienced my second Saturn return this year I recognised all of the periods covered! I have fallen into all of the traps the cosmos and I thought I was creating my own life! Next week we get it all together. Carole WestCharts DiscussionFirstly we looked at the chart of Sir Ranulph Fiennes, known (as stated in the Guinness Book of Records) as the world's greatest living explorer. We did not have the exact time of his birth but the aspects of the planets said it all. Moon conjunct Jupiter is the fire sign of Leo showed his love of exploration. Saturn conjunct Mars in Gemini showed he would push himself to limits, face death (which he has done on many occasions) and his drive and focus in writing about his experiences, plus this conjunction sextiles Moon/Jupiter, he writes about his travel adventures. Pluto in the North Node, in Leo shows his fame on a massive scale (George Clooney has the same aspect). Venus trine Saturn shows is long and stable marriage (he has been married for 33 years). Sun/Jupiter in mutual reception with a link to Chiron, indicated a strong heart and an ability to heal. We then looked at the planetary aspects for November, which looks an amazing month with the full Moon and New Moon eclipses. Six planets coming into sextile aspect with each other - Moon (which will be opposing the Sun in an eclipse), Mars (coming to oppose Jupiter), Chiron (in opposition to Saturn), Sun, Jupiter and Saturn - an amazing setup happening 8th November. As it is the 6th Harmonic it is all to do with healing. We all discussed how it will hit our own charts. Finally we looked at the chart of Iraq and compared this with the 1970 chart of Syria, to look at the relationship of the two. From transits and progressions it was decided that Iraq will continue to be at war for some time. Uranus is still opposing the Pluto and Saturn is being transited by Pluto in the first house and Saturn will transit the Sun next year. We briefly looked at Syria as next week Helene, our Beginners Class teacher will bring in at least four charts of Syria to look at its history and how it will fit in with current events. See you then. Gill Dorren |
